About Leadership Development

Custom designed programs
for all levels of leadership.

In close collaboration with the senior leader, our Leadership Development Programs are custom designed for a leadership team. We begin with an assessment of the leadership team through interviews and observations to collaboratively develop a plan.  Our programs generally take place over several months. 

Regular workshops with action learning assignments is the core component of the leadership development program. Optional components include webinars, bi-weekly group coaching, as well as individual executive coaching for participants.

Building and Maintaining Resilience

A series of Webinar sessions with approaches, techniques, and ideas for growing, sustaining, and reinvigorating your resilience and better managing your stress. Topics include energy management, keystone habits, managing stress and worry, engaging the relaxation response, stress hardiness, and mindfulness in action.

Through this workshop, the participants will be able to:

  • Understand the nuances of energy management
  • Develop accessible keystone habits for building resilience
  • Learn simple techniques to counter stress on a moment to moment basis
  • Apply moment-to-moment mindfulness at different points of the day to build resilience

Foundations of Leadership: Theory and Application

Many modern leadership theories and approaches have evolved over the past 60+ years.  This course encapsulates the most effective aspects of these approaches and presents the essence and principles of leadership thought in an accessible and applicable way.  This workshop can also serve as the basis of an ongoing leadership development program which would include coaching groups and webinars over a 4-8 month program.

Through this workshop, the participants will be able to:

  • Describe key leadership concepts
  • Understand how to apply leadership approaches
  • Identify preferred leadership qualities to inspire individuals and teams
  • Practice relevant leadership skills

Team Leadership

Most work happens in teams. To be effective, it is imperative that teams develop trust, the ability to collaborate, and hold discussions in open and creative ways while holding each other accountable. This workshop helps leaders of teams understand the importance of clarify common goals and apply approaches to building strategic process and understand team dynamics so as to optimize team performance.

Through this workshop, the participants will learn approaches to:

Delegation Skills

Delegation is an important ability that often goes unused because of the mistaken belief that it is easier to do a job yourself.  However, this creates a vicious cycle leading to leaders being overloaded and increasingly burdened, limiting time that could be used for more important higher-order activities.  This workshop focuses on the critical elements for successful delegation and the nuanced approaches required for initiating different levels of delegation. 

Through this workshop, the participants will learn to:

  • Clearly define tasks, assess abilities, and delineate desired results
  • Determine deadlines, outline support, and provide framing for delegation tasks
  • Identify the required level of delegation and related actions
  • Plan and practice delegation with real life, current situations

Developing Direct Reports

The purpose of the Developing Direct Reports workshop is to help managers learn and practice the various skills important for developing employees.  Coaching skills are critical for successful management and team leadership.  This course provides a comprehensive program for understanding the practice of staff development. 

Through this workshop, the participants will learn how to:

  • Identify key concepts for taking the approach of an effective coach
  • Learn tools for promoting continuous performance improvement
  • Understand and demonstrate critical coaching communication skills
  • Recognize the stages in the coaching process

Facilitation Effectiveness

Effective facilitation requires understanding the process and dynamics of groups.  A facilitator helps a group to free itself from internal and external obstacles so that it may more efficiently and effectively achieve its desired outcomes.  In this training participants will gain a deeper understanding of group dynamics and learn how to facilitate groups productivity.

Powerful Presentations

Designing and developing effective presentations challenge the presenter to coherently and systematically organize his or her thoughts and positions. Delivering presentations effectively supports accurate communication of ideas to both internal and external stakeholders.

Through this workshop, participants will learn how to:

  • Define the five key steps to making effective presentations
  • Translate audience needs and concerns into specific presentation points
  • Create visuals that clearly and concisely communicate complex ideas and data
  • Identify various strategies for managing stress during a presentation
  • Describe techniques for using voice and diction to improve the impact of your presentation
  • Develop skills in managing questions and answers

Critical Thinking at Work

Critical thinking involves evaluating how we are thinking and then choosing a path of investigation that helps us find the best possible answers.  We practice critical thinking when we carefully and deliberately evaluate our own thought processes used to reach a conclusion.  Non-critical thinking leads to the wrong conclusions, going off in the wrong direction, and disagreements due to misinformation.  Critical thinking leads to developing the best solutions to problems, recognizing our own biases to guide self-improvement, identifying key issues, and giving sound arguments to create buy-in for our ideas. 

Through this workshop, the participants will learn how to:

  • Learn how to avoid the pitfalls of non-critical thinking
  • Examine the different styles of critical thinking
  • Apply critical thinking strategies
  • Discover the methods for developing and evaluating arguments
  • Formulate how to powerfully present ideas

Strengthening Problem Solving Skills

Effective problem solving is critical to success at work. However we frequently jump to our first solution to a problem and don’t necessarily practice the effort necessary to find the best solution.  This course helps participants understand the pitfalls of our cognitive biases and provides the steps to apply for effective problem solving.

Through this workshop, the participants will:

  • Understand the two systems of thinking
  • Recognize cognitive biases and how to limit them
  • Learn how to apply problem solving steps
  • Identify techniques for problem solving with others

Effective Meeting Management

This workshop teaches management skills for effective meetings and understand the importance of a holistic approach to managing meetings.

Through this workshop, the participants will learn how to:

  • Describe the important steps needed to best prepare for and optimize a meeting’s effectiveness
  • Explain and practice a variety of meeting management skills and techniques
  • Identify and employ tools and strategies to address common meeting challenges
  • Describe basics principles for taking minutes during a meeting

Strategic Thinking

Strategic thinking is a tool to help confront change, plan for and make transitions, and envision new possibilities and opportunities.  Strategic thinking is a synthesizing process utilizing intuition and creativity.  The goal of strategic thinking is to develop an integrated perspective of an organization and its overall direction.

Through this workshop, the participants will learn how to:

  • Apply intelligent opportunism
  • Think in time
  • Practice the steps for thinking strategically

Leading through Change

Working in a constantly changing environment makes it difficult to implement ideas and create desired results.  Influencing people to buy-in to one’s ideas is often a challenge as people tend to be secure in the old ways of doing things.  In the Leading through Change workshop, participants will learn how to move an organization forward in the context of competing and conflicting ideas and agendas, and manage barriers, find resources and build management support.

Through this workshop, the participants will learn how to:

  • Understand the process and dynamics of change
  • Identify common behavioral and emotional responses to change
  • Identify productive and nonproductive change behaviors
  • Implement strategies for dealing with change positively and constructively

Self and Time Management

The Self and Time Management workshop teaches participants how to control work flow, build awareness about personal decision making and prioritization, and discover a new perspective on time and how we interface with it. 

Through this workshop, the participants will learn how to:

  • Learn about their personal barriers to self-management
  • Recognize the underlying values that influence how they work.
  • Understand how to structure their day around their personal priorities

Political Savvy

Political savvy is intangible, elusive and quite often taken for granted.  But every organization demands it.  It has to do with understanding those unwritten rules of how things “really” work around here, the political circumstances in which to frame actions and decisions and unspoken corporate values.  Learn how being politically savvy can enhance your leadership approach to better achieve your personal and organization objectives.

Through this workshop, the participants will learn how to:

Collaborative Leadership

The Collaborative Leadership workshop will help leaders contribute more effectively to group performance and results.  Emphasis is placed on practical skills, tools, and strategies for fostering open and collaborative work and information exchange among team members.  It also teaches skills to deal with conflict, disputes, and difficult behaviors.

Through this workshop, the participants will learn how to:

  • Describe the benefits of effective teaming
  • Explain the different work styles that may exist among individual team members and how to work best with those styles
  • Learn how to implement communication strategies that lead to a higher level of commitment and engagement from colleagues and a more effective work climate

Robust Communication in Organizations

The Robust Communication in Organizations workshop helps participants learn the basic building blocks to communicating clearly and effectively.

Emotionally Intelligent Leadership

The Emotionally Intelligent Leadership workshop provides participants with the opportunity to develop the skills of Emotionally Intelligent Leadership and learn how to apply them in the many challenging situations that occur on the job.  The skills of Emotionally Intelligent Leadership are key to successfully influencing others in the workplace.  By understanding the interplay of the skills, and learning techniques to build these skills, participants will discover new ways to succeed at work.

In the Dealing with Difficult People workshop participants will learn how to respond to and influence difficult people in a positive and effective way.

Conflict Management

Conflict is a normal part of workplace interactions.  It can be healthy or destructive.  Understanding, recognizing and addressing conflict is a critical leadership skill.
